Visual timetables. Movement breaks. Decompression time. These things might sound small, but we know that thoughtful and practical strategies can have a huge impact on neurodiverse children’s ability to be included in school. This knowledge can also give teachers the tools they need to create supportive learning environments that work for all children.

Our INSET workshops have been developed alongside speech and language, occupational therapists and educational psychologists, and aim to give parents, teachers and pupils practical strategies they can use in school and at home.  They are delivered by therapists and experts by experience creating powerful learning for teachers, coaches and others working with neurodiverse young people.

Inclusion workshop (2 hours)

In this workshop, we discuss sensory and communication needs and how they might impact a young person’s behaviour. Our workshop provides a practical perspective on how teaching staff and parents can help children with strategies that can be shared between school and home, and support their inclusion.

The presentation was developed by Sam Silver, in partnership with speech and language, occupational therapists and educational psychologists as a response to more generic ‘autism’ training that can pigeon-hole neurodiverse children.

Sensory Integration Introduction (2 hours)

Sensory integration strategies help children to recognise when they are struggling to concentrate or learn, and help them take the next step to be able to regulate how they are feeling. This workshop provides individual strategies that people can use at school, home and in lots of other settings.

We often run this session with an occupational therapist and sensory integration expert, as well as with Act-attain’s Tom Silver who is neurodiverse and has used sensory training strategies through school, college, university and at work.
