Action-attainment's annual workshop programme, to help parents and teachers understand planning for a child’ s transfer from primary to secondary school and beyond, especially now that EHCPs extend to 25.
In 2016/17 parents attended the following workshops. We are applying for funding to repeat them again in 2017/18 due to parental demand.
An introduction to how sensory, motor and communication needs affect learning and behaviour. How observation and detective work at primary school leads into planning for secondary school transition and further education.
Parent pannel. Three parents explain how they worked with teachers and other professionals to identify and put in place strategies to help their child's transition to secondary school. The parents have experience of education in mainstream, private and specialist secondary schools.
Educational Reports - how can they help us. What is the impact of a child's cognitive, sensory, social and communication profile on their transition to Secondary School. Which reports can help provide evidence of need and support.
Legal workshop. When do parents need to get legal help to secure support for their child's education. SinclairsLaw explain the implications of new Special Needs legislation and Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). These now extend to cover supported education at college for 19-25year olds opening new opportunities for access to training courses.
Sinclairs have worked with families to progress young people from Secondary education into mainstream college with special school support for education around professional skills and living independently using the new EHCP.
